The Zen Society of Wooster practices Korean Zen, which has many similarities with Japanese Soto Zen
Our Monday evening sessions begins with 10 minutes of chanting, followed by 25 minutes of sitting meditation (zazen), 10 minutes walking meditation (kinhin) then another 25 minutes of sitting meditation. After meditation, we have a Dharma reading and discussion. We encourage people to be seated before 7:00pm. we will be happy to offer instructions to those who have not tried Zen style sitting, but it is important to arrive 20 min early for this.
We encourage practitioners of all denominations of Buddhism to attend and also welcome non-Buddhists. You do not have to be Buddhist to practice Zen or apply the teachings of the Buddha to your life.
We also encourage the use of chairs for those who are not comfortable sitting on the floor. Our focus is on meditation rather than on trying to force anyone into sitting in the traditional lotus posture.
Please come and visit!
